The Devil Inside

SPOILER - - I buy my ticket and hear next to me, “can I see you’re ID?" I watch as three people in a row buy tickets to The Devil Inside and are carded because they look under 25 years of age. I did not buy my own ticket but I will keep the delusion that I also would have been carded. Why were people getting carded so much for this film? Because of the nature of the film I was told. I follow the line inside and get a diet coke and popcorn and walk with my friends to the outside of the theatre where I see two staff members asking for tickets. I give my ticket to the female staff and ask why they are checking. She stated because the film is very scary. I though to myself, they are treating this like 1973 when The Exorcist was released in the theatres. I thought maybe the hype of how horrible this film is would be wrong. I sit in my seat and go through the 20 drill of commercials and trailers. The film starts. The star of the film is Fernanda Andrade who plays Isabella Rossi the daughter of a woman; Maria Rossi played by Suzan Crowly, who killed three people in 1989. The film revolves around Isabella. This is where the problem comes in for me. I had a very hard time watching her as she did not pronounce her words very well. I know this is minor for some, but really bothers me when I watch a film. It was so bad I thought she had speech impairment but she did not. Anyway, the film was done as a documentary which was fine as this film was suppose to look like an investigation and quest for Isabella to find out the truth about her mother. Was she in fact possessed or mentally ill? Isabella along with two priests and her camera man go through spiritual warfare until their demise at the end of the film. But is it their demise or will the demons that escaped Maria keep them alive? Remember, one of the main pushes throughout the film was that people could do and survive a lot when possessed so the ending makes you think. I have seen a lot of dumb films in my day. I did not think this film was bad minus Isabella's inability to talk correctly. There were even areas that made me laugh. I do not understand however, why the security was so intense as the film was not scary. If the hype had not made it appear like The Exorcist, I think the film would have done ok. I didn't hate the film and did not feel it was the greatest ever, it was mediocre. There were cutting issues but that is what you get with trying to make the film look like a documentary. There were errors but overall it passed.
